Really excited to have a guest post from one of our site users 2020 Archery on the blog. Have a read and get a bit more of an insight into what they do and if it’s something you fancy attending.
Hi there! We’re 2020 Archery and we use Harris Academy Bermondsey – a Schools Plus site – as one of our two main shooting venues. We run a regular club session at the school every Monday and Wednesday evening. We hold frequent ‘Have a Go’ at Archery sessions and we run 5 week beginner courses pretty much continuously – so we’re very open for people looking to start with the great sport of archery.
On top of our core club sessions we also host brilliant events – we do everything from classic ‘corporate team-building’ to much more laid back work socials, birthday parties and events for social groups of friends. We’re mainly adult focused as a club but we do have a thriving junior branch (our website for juniors is www.juniorarchery.co.uk) who meet every Saturday morning at our London Bridge venue.
We’re also really proud to be one of the only inner city London venues for the brilliant new game of Archery Tag. Haven’t heard of Archery Tag yet? Well, it’s kind of a cross between paintball and dodgeball… but played with bows and arrows! The arrows have a patented safe ‘marshmallow’ tip (ok it’s not real marshmallow, it’s some super high tech stuff that means that it doesn’t hurt when you get hit!). It’s played as a 5 a side sport and the goal is to ‘tag’ or hit all of the other team with an arrow. We now play Tag almost as much as we do ‘proper’ Olympic style target archery.
We love seeing new members so why not think about releasing your inner Katniss or Robin Hood and giving it a go? Singles, couples and small groups can get started with one of our scheduled Have a Go sessions – just £25pp with all equipment, tuition and insurance provided. All of courses are totally beginner friendly as well. Groups of people should take a look at our Archery Tag or Events pages.
Last thing to say is that archery is a really open sport. We’re super inclusive of anyone from age 8 upwards (we even have some blind club members who shoot using tactile sights). You don’t have to be in brilliant shape or super sporty to have a go at archery. We’re social enough for people who want to make friends, but you can also slip in and out, just concentrating on having some ‘me time’ and achieving something for yourself.
